Kind of a cool, damp day. A fire in the woodstove feels nice - it seems to have put everybody except me into a Sunday morning slumber. I think this will be a hot tub kind of day - an afternoon soak in the warm water, with a glass of wine, to watch the leaves change color.

Beauty and bounty. We're so fortunate. A nice small mouth bass off the dock first thing this morning, fresh picked blueberries (now blueberry pie for dessert) delivered by a friend who stopped in for coffee, and fresh flower centerpiece right from the garden.
I wish more people could share such awesomeness. That's my wish...

Whew! It's sure a hot one today. Since I wore long pants to camp this weekend and forgot to pack shorts I was starting to get pretty hot.
Then, inspiration kicked in and I created this fashionable, yet practical, warm weather camp thong using only a bottle of salad dressing and a piece of string.
Mary is impressed.Matter of fact she's still speechless, a half hour later. You can only imagine how proud she is...
What have you created today?

  • Michelle Woodruff I am speechless. As I imagine Mary is as well
  • Melinda Field What the heck... there's NO ONE out there to see you! ... Just the hundreds of your friends. You're priceless...
  • Mike D'Amour There is no way to unsee what should never, ever been seen. All I can say is: "Hey lady, put a shirt on!"
  • Melinda Field Page 1 of Mac's "SELFIEs" file...
  • Cherie Smith hilarious!
  • Toni Ely Oh my goodness!! This just made me laff out loud!!!! Dick you are a one!! Made my dayxx

Rotary cruise and dinner

Today we had our annual Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout cruise and dinner. I can't get the video segments to upload from camp, but will add them to the Rotary site from town when we go in tomorrow.
Here are a couple pictures of the cruise and the reception at the dock at a remote camp for the dinner.
I do love my boat and being on the water. I think I dress nicer to drive the boat than I did for my wedding.
It was a spectacular afternoon and evening with amazing friends. And we raised a handsome amount for our local and international initiatives. My very favorite is the international student exchange program.

Before the storm

Rain on our lake side bar.
Just before the storm, dozens and dozens of grackles descended on camp. I've never seen anything quite like it. Grackles are not easy to love - they are loud, aggressive, and not very pretty - and my immediate inclination was to rush outside and make a big racket to scare them away.
Thankfully, before doing that, I observed that they were all madly pecking apart the tent caterpillar cocoons and eating like a troop of starving boy scouts on a camping trip.
Although they missed a few before flying away, like Carnies in the night, those grackles had stripped away thousands of next year's little troublemakers. Suddenly, the evil black ones became more loveable.
I marveled and meditated later, immersed in the beauty of the patterns of rain on the bar, and the wonder of the birds.
And I reminisced about lost friends and failed relationships. I wonder if a moment of quiet reflection before making the big racket might have made a difference...

Reflections

Last evening I reflected for hours as I looked out over the lake with the setting sun. These are birches about a half mile across the bay from our camp.
Later the crescent moon slid silently across the sky, offering many mellow minutes of beauty and dreams before hiding itself in the western sky. I wonder how many friends around the world might have been watching and dreaming at the same time, with their own views of the moon and their own fantasies...
